Rasmussen to be Director of both Myklebust and Kleven

Kleven Maritime pooling its resources:
Ståle Rasmussen to be Managing Director of both Myklebust and Kleven

With effect from 13 August, Ståle Rasmussen will also be Managing Director of Myklebust Verft. Ståle has been Managing Director of Kleven Verft since December 2001.
Per Kristian Furø has reached an agreement with the board and will leave the position of Managing Director of Myklebust Verft with effect from the same date. He will be available to the company for a few months. Per Kristian has been Managing Director of Myklebust Verft for five years, and we would like to take this opportunity to thank him for his efforts for the company during this period.

Myklebust Verft and Kleven Verft’s order books will be closely intertwined in the time ahead. In particular, this will be the case in connection with the AHTS order for Siem Offshore under which 10 vessels have now been ordered.
During the autumn, it will also become clear whether the final two options will be exercised. We won the competition for this contract because, among other things, we were able to offer large combined capacity, which resulted in attractive delivery times for Siem. Extensive coordination of the combined resources in Kleven Maritime will be required in order to complete the major building programme in the best way possible. The board of directors of Kleven Maritime and the boards of the two yards have discussed this on several occasions. At a board meeting of Kleven Maritime in July, it was decided to assign responsibility for managing the two companies to one person. A corresponding unanimous resolution was adopted by the board of Myklebust Verft. The board has given Ståle Rasmussen responsibility for drawing up a proposal for a coordinated management and pertaining operating model for Kleven Maritime’s yards.

A project will be carried out to decide the future organisation of the yards, with employees participating on a broad basis. It is a prerequisite for this work that a site manager/yard manager is appointed for Myklebust Verft as soon as possible. Oddvar Saunes of PAB Consulting in Ålesund has been taken on as an extra resource for Ståle to draw on in the time ahead, and, until such time as a site manager/yard manager is appointed, Oddvar will focus on Myklebust. Oddvar Saunes has wide-ranging experience of the shipbuilding industry with the main focus on operating issues, and in recent years he has had extensive assignments for several Norwegian shipyards.

Recruitment and efficient production are two important challenges facing us in the time ahead. The board is concerned with ensuring that Kleven Maritime is organised in a way that ensures that we have good, attractive discipline environments. We also believe that being in a position to offer exciting discipline environments is important in terms of attracting top quality skilled labour. We must organise the business in a manner that helps us to achieve this goal to a greater extent than at present, while at the same time making positive use of the employees’ identification with Myklebust and Kleven.

Shipbuilding will never be an individual sport. We wish Ståle all the best as he spearheads the company in its efforts to meet the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead, and request all employees, each in his or her own way, to help us to make the most of these opportunities.

Kjersti Kleven
Chair of the Board, Kleven Maritime AS / Myklebust Verft AS
